How does your orchard grow? Proficiency Assessment and AAPPL Data Reports

Friday, November 18th, 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM

The ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) is an online assessment that provides measurements across all language skills. It produces results that can be compared across classes, schools, and districts, and its granular ratings scale documents movement towards higher levels of proficiency. In this session, participants will gain insight on how they can track progress toward proficiency of learners, recognize growth and achievement, and evaluate their program through test data collection and analysis.

Presenters: Francesco Fratto, Herricks Public Schools; Lingling Xie, Herricks High School; Jennifer Dobberfuhl Quinlan, Language Testing International

Fostering Global Communication through Topic-Based Virtual Exchanges

Friday, November 18th, 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM

For language students to become proficient, cultural literacy is a necessity. Therefore, cultural literacy must be intentionally incorporated into each course. Level Up Village fosters world language learners’ intercultural communicative competence through secure video exchanges on our innovative global collaboration platform. Students have real-world conversations and cultural discussions with global peers. We channel students’ curiosity about the world, create awareness of cultural similarities and differences, and help them develop as global citizens.

Presenters: Alejandro Cisneros, Language Testing International; Paula Van Ells, Language Testing International; Scott Gravina, Language Testing International
